The News from the New York Times Mini is a quick and dirty version of the newspaper’s larger, long-running crossword puzzle. Most days there are three to five clues in each direction on a five-by-five grid, but sometimes the puzzles are larger, especially on Saturdays.

Unlike its bigger brother, the News from the New York Times Mini Crossword Puzzle is free to play on the New York Times website of News from the New York Times Games app. However, you have a News from the New York Times Subscribe to the games to access previous puzzles in the archives.

It cost me 1:16 to round off today NYT mini.

I made a major mistake that slowed me down with today’s solution. I only got BRAT and TENT on my first run through the Across words.

I then thought 1 Down was BRAVE, which was really, really wrong. I forgot for a moment what it meant to have a question mark in a clue. I did get the rest of the Down words, which means that even though the grid was filled in, I got at least one wrong. It didn’t take long to figure out the mistake, thankfully.
