House fire and entrapment in Washington County after Tropical Storm Helene

House fire and entrapment in Washington County after Tropical Storm Helene

Vaseline 1 week ago

While Sandersville was bearing the brunt of Tropical Store Helene, Sheriff Joel Cochran reports multiple 911 calls came in for downed trees on homes.

One of those calls resulted in a house fire that left at least one person trapped. It happened around 4am on South Hospital Road. According to the sheriff, although emergency responders were on scene, they had no information on the status of the residents. Hours later, the sheriff says there is still no update.

Someone was also trapped in a second house where a tree fell. That house is on Gordon Street.

While WGXA was on the phone with Sheriff Cochran to learn more information, he stated that a third call came in, but he could not yet send crews to the house.

This is a development story.
