Tampa International Airport reopens after Hurricane Helene

Post Helene transfer level

Tampa International Airport is now fully open and operational after commercial and cargo flights were suspended Thursday due to Hurricane Helene.

Airport Operations staff conducted damage assessments early Friday morning and determined that TPA did not sustain any significant damage from the storm.

“After working hard to protect the safety of our travelers, employees and facilities, TPA weathered this major and dangerous storm,” said Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport. “We can now turn our attention to serving our community and travelers and assisting efforts to help our fellow Floridians recover from Helene.”

Information for travelers:

  • TSA security checkpoints, parking facilities, the SkyConnect train, the Rental Car Center and other services are all open and operational. Some shops and restaurants at the airport will gradually reopen during the day.
  • With high passenger volumes expected, passengers are urged to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure. Delays and cancellations are expected Friday as airlines update their flight schedules in response to the impact of Hurricane Helene. Passengers should do that please contact their airlines for the latest information about flight statusas TPA operates and maintains the airport but does not determine airline schedules.
  • General Aviation Airports: Access to Peter O. Knight Airport in Tampa’s Davis Islands remains restricted due to flooding and a reopening time has not yet been set. Tampa Executive and Plant City airports are restarting operations today. These three facilities are operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, which also operates TPA.
