SARATOGA SPRINGS – A small plane crashed into Utah Lake on Friday, leaving the occupants “underwater for an extended period of time,” emergency officials said.

“We have crews with personnel out on the lake. They’re just confirming a few things. The aircraft is in about 8 feet of water. … The likelihood of anyone being viable is diminishing,” Jess Campbell said. , Chief of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sergeant Spencer Cannon said he did not know how many people were on the plane, but that it had been cleared to land at Provo Airport before the crash.
