49ers News: Latest news on Brock Purdy and George Kittle injuries

Vaseline 6 days ago

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will practice fully on Wednesday, while tight end George Kittle will return to practice on a limited basis, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Purdy’s status came into the air after it was revealed he was suffering from back pain. Purdy has not missed any games or time this season.

Kittle returns after missing Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury. Kittle did not practice last Thursday and Friday ahead of the 49ers’ 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but is back for the first time in a week.

This isn’t necessarily a surprise, as 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier this week that he expected Kittle to be back at practice.

The 49ers will be without All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams for Wednesday’s practice as he deals with an illness.

Purdy and Kittle practicing in some capacity is a positive for the 49ers, who haven’t had injury luck on their side lately.

Barring any setbacks, the 49ers hope to have both Purdy and Kittle available for their Week 4 game against the New England Patriots. The 49ers are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-2 start to the season, especially their loss to the Rams in which they blew a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Purdy played well in the loss, completing 22 of his 30 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Without several of the 49ers’ top position players, Purdy drove the offense down the field all game while nearly bailing out a defense that was playing well below their level.

Kittle was one of the players who could not play on Sunday, along with running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. McCaffrey has yet to play this season as he battles an Achilles injury that sidelined him during preseason. He was placed on injured reserve after week one and McCaffrey has since flown to Germany to see a specialist for the injury.

Samuel was out with a calf injury and could miss at least one more game before he can return. With McCaffrey, Kittle and Samuel out, the 49ers offense turned to Jauan Jennings and Jordan Mason as their top playmakers.

The 49ers defense also received more bad injury news this week, as they will lose defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the rest of the season due to a torn triceps. The reigning NFC champions will have to overcome these injuries if they hope to overcome a rough start and compete again.
