Dodgers achieve best MLB record and home field advantage through postseason

We don’t know how long the Dodgers will last in the postseason, but they will have home field advantage for every series they play in October. Los Angeles achieved the best record in Major League Baseball on Saturday ahead of their game against the Rockies at Coors Field.

The Dodgers (96-64) are the No. 1 seed in the National League over the Phillies (94-67) – who lost in Washington DC on Saturday – and will finish with a better record than the Yankees (93-68), owners of the best record in the American League. By winning the NL West on Thursday night, the Dodgers also achieved a bye past the wild-card round and directly into the National League Division Series.

The first postseason game for the Dodgers takes place this Saturday, October 5 at Dodger Stadium with Game 1 of the NLDS. The Dodgers will host the winner of the wild-card series between the No. 4 seed Padres and whichever team finishes as the No. 5 seed.

The Braves (87-71), Mets (87-71) and Diamondbacks (88-72) are all vying for the last two wild-card spots in the NL, a battle that could even extend into Monday. If necessary, the Braves and Mets will play a doubleheader in Atlanta on Monday, making up two games that were postponed due to last Wednesday’s bad weather.

The Dodgers were 52-28 (.650) at Dodger Stadium this season, the second-best home record in the MLB, trailing only Philadelphia (54-27 at Citizens Bank Park). Los Angeles was 24-10 at home after the All-Star break. Over the final five weeks of the season, the Dodgers won home series against three playoff teams: the Orioles, Guardians and Padres.

This marks the fourth time in the past eight seasons that the Dodgers finished with the best record in the MLB, along with 2017, 2020 and 2022. They also had the second-best record in 2019 and 2021. Since moving to Los Angeles the Dodgers have finished with the best record in the MLB only once, in 1974.
