MIAMI GARDENS – When Miami Dolphins quarterback coach Darrell Bevell watched film of Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, he was impressed with what he saw of Snoop’s passing.

“I think it was a little underrated in some of the things he can do as a passer,” Bevell said Friday. “Because I think the one thing that gets talked about all the time is the things he can do with his legs. And you know, that’s exciting to have, but I was really excited about what he could do as a pitcher. “

Huntley, a 26-year-old from Dania Beach, could start for the Dolphins on “Monday Night Football” against the Tennessee Titans.

Huntley was 3-6 as a starter for the Ravens, but posted a solid completion percentage of 64.6. He arrived in Miami just ten days ago.

“I’m excited about Snoop and him coming here just because of the process he’s gone through,” Bevell said. “I mean, it’s not an easy task to learn an offense that’s really that extensive. Plays are plays, but that’s what you call them and the things that we do. He really came in and just sunk his teeth into it , worked very hard to obtain the knowledge he needs to take to the field.”

Huntley was able to start because Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is on injured reserve, Skylar Thompson has a rib injury and Tim Boyle did not lead a touchdown drive in Seattle.

Miami Dolphins news: Tyler “Snoop” Huntley can start

It’s possible Huntley can provide a spark to an offense that hasn’t scored a touchdown in seven quarters.

It’s also clear that Miami would have to adjust its offense for Huntley. In particular, we could see some zone reads, sprint outs or draws.

It would definitely be a simplified game plan.

“Well the good thing is that the game plans, we’re in game plan weeks, you know it’s different than training camp because in training camp you just throw the whole thing at them, you have the whole encyclopedia,” Bevel said “Specifically during a game week, they can only use a more limited number of plays, and while it’s still big, it’s definitely limited instead of teaching concepts and large parts of your offense.

Dolphins vs. Titans news: What Tyler Huntley is focusing on

Bevell noted that the timing and footwork in the Dolphins’ offense is different than the footwork and timing Huntley used in Baltimore.

“So we have a timing violation with movements,” Bevell said. “So those are one of the things you have to do. The footwork, I think, is very crucial.”

Miami Dolphins depth chart: Tyler Huntley moves up at QB

Bevell noted that head coach Mike McDaniel will often sit down with his starting quarterback at the end of the week to dig deeper into some of the plays they feel most comfortable with.

“I’ve had experiences before where the coach could say, ‘This is a great game,’” Bevell said. “And the quarterback says, ‘I don’t know.’ And you say, ‘No, it’s a great piece.’ And you mention it, and it doesn’t work very well. And with the quarterbacks, you can have the exact opposite. And the coach says, ‘There’s no way this play is working.’ The quarterback has a feel for it and those are the plays that work. So I think it’s important to listen to those guys.”
