Netflix’s new No. 1 show is one of my biggest surprises of the year – and has a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Initially, “Nobody Wants This” seemed like a pretty appropriate name for Netflix’s new romantic comedy show about an unexpected relationship between a sex podcaster and a Jewish rabbi. Let’s just say that before the streaming premiere last week (on September 26th), I really didn’t want this.

The premise seemed clunky, and the first trailer suggested an overly glossy series that had me cringing more often than laughing. But I’ve learned by now not to judge a book by its cover (or a Netflix series by its trailer), so with a weekend with no plans thanks to a nasty cold, I hit play on ‘Nobody Wants this’. ‘with the expectation that I would get rid of it relatively quickly. Instead, I found one of my favorite shows of 2024.
